Baby’s desserts

I used to find it hard to think what to give my kids for their dessert and usually served fruit or yoghurt. But once I started this site I got more adventurous and the following are some yummy and sugar free desserts that not only are so simple to make but also are baby friendly versions of grown up (sugar laden) desserts. They are great for younger babies too as they are all nice and smooth to eat.

(All of these desserts can be also be used by those of you who traditionally wean their children rather than Baby Led style.)

Baby cheesecake :

2 tbsp cream cheese

1 tbsp fruit purée

1 tbsp natural yoghurt

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp crushed sugar free baby biscuits (if I haven’t made my own I use any of  Organix baby biscuits )

Mix the first 4 ingredients together in a bowl then sprinkle on the crushed biscuits.

Apple crispy crumble:

This dish was really popular when I posted it a long time ago. I love apple crumble and wanted my kids to enjoy it as much as I do but without the sugar.

Baby custard:

1/2 cup milk

2 tsp cornflour

1 egg yolk

1/4 tsp vanilla extract / paste

Whisk the cornflour into the milk slowly so there are no lumps. Whisk in the egg yolk .

  1. Microwave process: microwave the mixture for one minute. Stir then put back in for 30 seconds. Stir and put back in for another 30 seconds. Repeat this process until the custard is set.
  2. Oven top process: slowly heat the mixture in a saucepan stirring very regularly until it’s set or very thick.

The custard will be very hot so make sure it’s cooled down a lot before serving. It’s great served with some fruit purée or chopped or mashed banana.

Children’s chocolate mousse :

This was part of one of my most popular posts. Sugar free chocolate mousse for children!! Totally yum!

Baby rice pudding:

I posted a delicious sugar free Banana rice pudding recipe a while ago which very well received. It can be eaten by younger babies as well as older ones. If you want to make it even smoother then just leave out the banana and once the rice pudding is cooked then just blend it to the consistency that you want. You can then add in some mashed banana if you wish. Don’t blend it once the banana is added as you will just get a cement like mixture!

Banana ice cream & banana pudding

These two recipes are so delicious and easy to make. The ice cream only has one ingredient and the pudding is really comforting and I actually eat it lots!
