No sugar banana bread

Happy Monday everyone! Today I am showing you a lovely recipe for sugar free banana bread from my friend Katy. I frequently make my Banana and Raisin Muffins but am always on the lookout for new ideas using bananas. This recipe is delicious and sugar free which is always a bonus! It’s so simple to make and perfect for breakfast, dessert or a snack and I have to say it tastes delicious with a cup of tea (for me not the kids!).

NB: this recipe doesn’t contain any sugar but it does contain honey so is not suitable for under 1’s.

250g plain or wholemeal flour

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

125g fruit puree (either homemade or from a pot / pouch)

180g honey

2 eggs

3 very ripe / brown bananas

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.

Mix the puree and honey. Mash the bananas and beat the eggs then mix together with the puree and honey mixture. Add the flour and bicarb of soda until it’s all well mixed. Spoon the mixture into a greased loaf tin. Cook in the oven on 180 degrees C for 1 hour. Check it is cooked by sticking a toothpick or skewer into the middle and if it comes out clean then it’s done. Let it cool in it’s tin for about 10-15 mins then turn it out onto a wire tray to cool properly.

PS – you can also add in some chocolate chips or dried berries / raisins if you wanted.

  1. Just made this, with half the honey and it is yum yum yum! It was devoured as soon as it was cool by hubby and friends- for me who hates banana this is yum- need to make another one now for the babe! Thanks

  2. Hey….just made this and it didn’t rise very much….is that normal? Any tips on how to make it rise more next time?

    Thanks 🙂

  3. This is a huge hit with our 15 month old and us! We also used a lot less honey as it was still delicious and 180g seemed quite a lot. If the bananas are really really ripe, it’s almost toffeeyish! The first time I baked it, the oven was too high so the sides collapsed so now I turn the oven down slightly.
